Every day, we make decisions that will change the direction of our lives. Very rarely can we scream, do over! in real life. Very rarely do we get a second chance.
In February 2006, on opposite sides of Canada, two people were living with the aftermath of failed marriages. She had a dream that I walked up to her and I said “I am no longer married. I love you”. She always loved me.
Across the country, I would see a girl on the bus every day that reminded me of her and I would wonder why I made decisions that I made. I still loved her.
You see, she was my first kiss. She was my first girlfriend. I also broke her heart some 30 years ago and left her behind as I went off to school. I thought my whole life was ahead, plenty of fish in the sea. I didn’t realized what I had. I didn’t realize that she would be the best thing that ever happened to me.
When we reconnected it was like we had never been apart. It didn’t take long to realize we were meant to be.
I visited Royal Roads on my first visit here and thought “Wouldn’t it be amazing to work here?” Six months later I got a job here and our journey, together again, started anew.
Royal Roads was so pivotal in allowing me to stay here, that we also decided to get married here. We have now been happily married for almost 8 years.
Love is not something you should ever take for granted. If you have someone you love, hold them tight. If you do not, don’t stop looking. You will find that person and when you do, don’t ever let go.
