I was a clerk/typist on the 3rd floor of the castle from May to August, 1955 with the summer training cadets Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP). I worked with a petty officer, who, to this day is still living (92 years of age). I was sent to Royal Roads for a job interview from Sprott Shaw Business College (located on Douglas Street at that time almost across from the Strathcona Hotel). I was a successful applicant, at the young age of 17 and a half.
I felt like a princess, as I would eat my lunch sitting in the picturesque pagodas, walk the grounds on my lunch/coffee break and watched the handsome, young cadets training. I was asked to attend the Command Ball in August, 1955 - officers in white dress uniforms - I have pictures.
I could not have been a happier young lady - great job, beautiful surroundings - I was off to a great start in my life.
